The ghosts in this movie were worthless. What’s the point of having ghost friends if they aren’t going to save you from being murdered from your husband.

I didn’t hate this movie but I agree that the supernatural aspect was secondary. I did really like the ending and it definitely made me think for a while about what happened at the end before I figured it out. This video definitely helped my tie everything together

I kinda loved this film. James Norton's performance alone makes it worth watching IMO. The writing of his character seems somewhat based on Jordan Peterson, in an exaggeratedly evil sort of sense, similar to how The Craft: Legacy based their villain (portrayed by David Duchovny) off of him as well; except that movie was terrible. He's not a deep character per se, though Norton brings such charisma to this scumbag character that I couldn't help but be fascinated by him. I didn't really care for the ending either, probably due to the awkward-looking CGI, so I guess we're literally at the opposite end of the spectrum with our thoughts on this film. Not surprised by the split-reception this has received from everyone, but I feel this is one of Netflix's finest original movies (which, admittedly, isn't saying much).

what was even the point of the whole scene of the mother kissing the younger neighbour guy?? it served nothing? and those 2 brothers themselves felt like a useless plot, they knew about it and he didn't at all try to protect her lmao. plsu every one knew about the history & they all did nothing! sigh

Didn't like that she died. Or that she slept with the ghosts son. I did like how no matter what character the plot followed it always felt like other things were happening in the other characters lives. It was pretty good but I agree there was a lot of drawn out stagnated drama. I usually can gauge a movie by wether or not my boyfriend falls asleep.

I think the point of the seance scene is to point out how good spirits are dawn to good people while evil spirits like Eddie’s father is drawn towards George This also feels like George wanting the little house wife home to have his babies with his young inexperienced girls he can ‘wow’ with all his ‘brilliance’ 🙄 I actually liked the film it definitely felt isolating Like a dark twist on getting married and moving out to Suburbia George isolated Cat and becomes angry when she makes any connections with anyone he even seems annoyed and inconvenienced when their daughter needs them and Cat makes daughter the more important part of her life other than making sure George can get his sick wet It’s a film about toxic masculinity and how much men get away with Justine wasn’t at the house she was at the school where they both work George is a self obsessed POS who has no talent and has to lie and cheat to get what he thinks he deserves being a straight white rich man I think George killed his cousin just like he killed Debeers

I think Ella actually switched with Catherine when she was being killed to spare her the pain of her death. she stated and I quote" I can bare the sharpest stones so you don't feel their pain", but another's free will is his alone(referring to George's will to murder his wife and she unable to do anything to stop him) that was somewhat her gift to cath as she was gifted same by the woman before her.

  • Olivia Englund

Haha ”don’t marry a douchebag” sounds like a much more accurate title than this. I really hoped that Ella would protect her to get out so I was so bummed when she died in such a gruesome way! Then the husband swims into the gates of hell or something and disappears? Hmm. The ending left me both speachless and confused 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was so sad and beautiful in a way when Ella entered Kat’s body in her death so she wouldn’t feel any pain.

I'm a little confused about if George was really evil or if he was just possessed by the husband spirit in the house. Because it seems like every family who moves there, the husband kills the wife. So was it really his fault? Was he really a murderer? Would he have ended up killing if he'd never moved there? I know that he wasn't a good person for the lying about the paintings and his letter of recommendation but it seemed like he became influenced by the husband spirit. So did he really deserve to die?

I JUST finished watching this and came to find out about the ending; this movie was actually phenomenal minus the ending, which is really unfortunate, because then you get reviewers shitting on the entire movie when in fact it was beautifully done. The movie really seemed to follow in the footsteps of other more supernatural dramas such as Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor, where you're forced to (or maybe not so much 'forced' if you're a little stubborn and ignorant) remember that ghosts were once living, breathing, feeling people with all their own stories and sadness. Anyway -- I actually recommend this movie, just don't get stoked about the ending because it is... strange.

I like how the whole theme was "justice for the women of this house," implying she was going to be the one to break the cycle, only to die and essentially have the ghost tell us in a voiceover "only a couple more need to suffer and be killed before we're strong enough to maybe do something." Also, the whole bulimia thing; you have the husband poison her in a way that you've established to us she's been basically preparing to prevent by purging for however long and being able to make herself vomit on command, making it seem like it's finally going to come into play/pay off...but nope.

  • Jackson Orlady
    Jackson Orlady

Movie's protagonist is a just another victim culture abuser. Had she any integrity, she could have addressed and fixed this entire scenario by being competent. The dude ends up a bastard for sure, but "needs" in a marriage work both ways and I saw most of his self-centeredness as a desperate attempt to get the smallest amount of attention from his wife. When a woman cheats, people rush to their defense about how they weren't getting their needs fulfilled, yet when it's a man, he' a cheating bastard despite also not getting love or affection ever from his wife. Newsflash: men are human beings too.

The ending was bad at every point. But most importantly...THE UPSIDE DOWN CROSS IS NOT THE CROSS OF HELL OR SATAN. The leviathan cross is. NOT the upside down cross. The upside down cross is the Cross of Peter which is to show humility. It represents that he was not worthy to be crucified in the same way as Jesus. The upside down cross is almost as pro-jesus and pro-god as the regular cross.
