Holy shit has cancer then on top of it. She gets voraciously attacked by a nut case. That was a pretty dark movie. The ending is funny with her screaming at the end thinking she was a saint lol

Also, it exposes her distress when she is sexually assaulted by the bar man, but puts up barely any resistance because she is so dettached from reality

This is an excellent take on the movie, in my opinion. We share the same thoughts. Brilliant job, if I’m correct! I DO wanna point out one theme I haven’t seen brought up in any UZmatch analyses: this film also depicts the negative impact on unresolved psychological/emotional trauma. Maud is a trauma victim hiding from her unresolved pain in her delusions. In a very real way, the lack of healthy coping skills can result in self-harm in trauma victims. Anyway- great video. Agreed, enjoyed it, well done.

The movie really showcases her deteriorating mental health, but I wish we got to understand more about her stomach pains and nosebleeds that she seems to take as a sign that God is punishing her.

I work at a forensic psychiatric facility. At least a third of our patient population is incarcerated because they suffered the same illness/symptoms as Maude and ended up murdering people usually in the most brutal manner.

When you take a CPR class, they tell you good quality chest compressions can break ribs, especially on older people with less bone density. You won't punch through them like a superhero as seen in the movie, but I hate to imagine breaking someone's ribs again and again. Hurt beats dead though...

Didn't quite need the explanation. I thought it was fairly obvious. To elaborate on the delusions; I don't think that Maud thinking Amanda was the devil was a new development, she was subconsciously creating it throughout the film. In the beginning of the movie, Maud is snooping around Amanda's closet and finds a poster which featured '666' on it. Then we got to see Amanda's dancing, which could be interpreted as satanic in some eyes. Her body moves unnaturally and this cements this subconsciously to Maud. Then at the end, you may have missed that when Maud threw the 'water' at Amanda, it sizzled and Amanda appeared uncomfortable. This was before she literally revealed herself as the devil. To Maud, Amanda would either be saved or be destroyed in order for Maud to reach her goal of uniting with God. It didn't really matter which. That's my interpretation, at least.

I feel like FoundFlix has become too good at movies to explain things with no bias, I wish he would change the channel's direction into general reviews and explanations and what he thinks they mean. It's kind of what he's doing anyway, but it just feels like sometimes he has to shoehorn the 'endings' into his reviews.

Those are definitely not stretch marks. Maud continuously participates in self harm. “Never waste your pain” Honestly I found her past very easy to understand and don’t feel like it’s hard to get if you watch the movie. She obviously has grown extremely mentally ill from killing her patient (from braking her chest)

There’s a tendency on UZmatch for people to either say it’s the greatest film ever made or it’s terrible and the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I’m not going to fall into that trap. Saint Maud is very much an ok film. There was nothing about it that surprised me or I didn’t see coming. There was one point towards the end I thought it might go all out stupid, and in a way I was disappointed it didn’t because at least that would have been interesting and caught me off guard. While it’s in no way terrible, ultimately it’s a dull predictable bore, and there are much better films in this genre, Blackcoats Daughter is a far better film for example, absolute leagues ahead of this. The more I think about Saint Maud the more I dislike it, but I keep reminding myself there are worse films out there.

I think it was all in her mind. I think she was desperate to change what she considered her “selfish” ways, in order to save others, when really that just became her new thing to worship about herself. She went on and on against God, basically saying “I followed all the rules and should’ve received a reward”. That type of faith is hollow. She was only brought back to the idea of faith after “God” spoke to her; she went to Amanda in kindness and caring, but as soon as she was tested a tiny amount, she reacted viciously and murdered her, then self-immolated only once she saw others watching, and in her head, worshipping her, when really she was burning like a barbecue.
